Lifecasting - What the Hell is that?

Lifecasting

This is hardly a new idea.  It wasn't even a new idea when Édouard Joseph Dantan painted "A casting from Life" (see right) back in 1887.  Our materials have evolved but the basic idea has been around since cave men found out if they put their hand in mud and let it dry something magical happened.

Our version of lifecasting is, on the face of it, quite simple.  We start with a concept for a piece.  Then we select a model we think has the right shape, lines, curves to be useful in the completion of the concept in mind.  The model comes into the studio and we figure out the best pose and the casting process takes place.  Several layers of specialized (and completely safe!) materials are placed directly on the model and allowed to cure.  The materials are removed creating a negative mold.  From that mold we take a positive casting.  The molds are disposable and are at this point discarded.  The casting is the first step on a long journey towards the realization of our initial concept.

We also do portrait castings of peoples faces, as well as castings of hands, feet, etc.  We are happy to sit down with anyone who wishes to immortalize a loved one and go over all the details to help them realize their vision.  We have options for every budget.  A quote for the job will be given up front and will not change.  Usually half is required as a deposit before the castings are taken and then the remainder is required on delivery of the final piece.

Modeling opportunities are available as well!
